The Last House on the Left (2009)

Revenge is key. Watch in horror and disgust as two young, innocent girls get accosted by a misfit group consisting of a father, his girlfriend, and uncle and a son. After presumably killing the two girls, the gang finds refuge in a lakeside house (where one of the girls parents are residing). When they learn what the group did to their daughter, watch as they take their vengeance out on the group, slowly and painfully.
This movie is full of suspense and thrill, not to mention a horrific rape scene, terrible language, and very gruesome attacks. I give this movie an A+ for the suspense, but it really wasn't scary in the least bit, just horrifying. There are a few jumpy parts, but other than that it wasn't the kind of scary movie i enjoy. Viewer's comment: "If you can get past the gore this movie is extremely hilarious. Though the acting was terrible, I still found this movie entertaining."

Black Sheep

There is something strange happening on a sheep farm in New Zealand. When an object is released that was meant for disposal, it turns all the sheep into monsters. Be careful not to get bit, because if you do you will be transformed, into a mutant sheep! Several people get trapped on the farms, and they fight for their lives against the evil sheep and mutants.

If you want a good laugh, watch this! It's not scary at all. Their are several very gross relations to sheep, and the whole movie was simply a mess, with unnecessary gore and action/sexual scenes. We watched in terror as the sheep slowly became crazy and began eating the farmers. Even though this movie isn't scary in the lease bit, it is slightly suspenseful. Viewer's comment: "It was funny, despite all the gore, the whole concept of mutant/killer is hilarious".

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning

A baby, born into an evil world, takes vengeance on a group of young adults that get caught in his web. Raised by a perverted, religious couple, a young, deformed child is raised in a corrupted manner. They teach him the ways of cannibalism. Sadly, a group of kids become victims to the family's revolting habits.
Sadly, this movie did not hold our interest whatsoever. It was very gory, and through the middle i requested that it be turned off. I found myself becoming bored, and at one point almost fell asleep. This movie is ridiculous, and extremely graphic. Viewer's comment: "It was really gross, almost unbearable to watch. It wasn't scary at all, but it was somewhat suspenseful".

Leprechaun

Don't get in between a leprechaun and his pot of gold; this group of kids did, unfortunately.
This film, starring Jennifer Aniston, was made in 1993, and is very creepy. A disfigured leprechaun is haunting a group of young adults that are trying to fix up an old house. The cast includes a small child, and a large mentaly ill man. Sadly this slows down the action, and the dialoge. Yes the parts with the leprechaun were creepy, just because it's soooo unnatural, but the rest of the movie was pretty dull. To add, the acting was horrible.
Viewer's comment: "Didn't hold my interest, but the leprechaun was pretty creepy".

The Stepfather

Daddy's home!
Michael Harding comes home from military school to find a few changes. His mother is attached to her new boyfriend, who has moved in and proves eager to be the new "father" role in Michael's life. As they spend more time together, Michael begins to become suspicious of his stepfather. With help from his girlfriend and his biological father, Michael begins to discover who this stranger really is. But is he too late?
I found this movie extremely boring. At one point, i fell asleep. It was slow to start off, but the action did attempt to hold your attention. Towards the end, the movie did pick up and your views began to pulse with suspense. All in all, i thought that they could have done a much more impressive job. Viewer's comment: "The old man (stepfather) was creepy. But unfortunately, other than the suspense, the movie didn't have a whole lot to it".

Drag Me To Hell

Follow a terrifying story of a girl who is cursed by an evil gypsy woman. She had a perfect life, but after a startling encounter, she begins to slowly loose her mind. Follow her fight against evil forces as she struggles to stay alive. The devil is out to get her, and the demons are dying to drag her to hell.
At one point in this movie, I actually found myself falling asleep. The acting is terrible. There are some parts that make you jump, scary images in the mirror and things lurking around corners, but in general this was just a bad movie. I actually found myself laughing at one point. Although the movie felt like a waste of my time, i did feel my jaw drop at the end. Viewer's comment: "Unrealistic, and a little disturbing".

The Mist

Watch another one of Stephen King's creations! One average day, after a terrible storm, a father and son go to the store for some basic essentials. While they are shopping, they realise that something is wrong. Soon, people are panicking as a thick, heavy fog moves over the glass front of the store. As people venture out, they do not return. Strange animals appear, and some customers suggest that the mist is a portal to another dimension.
Follow their fight against the unnatural things coming from the mist. After a religious woman starts to rally the frightened people, watch as the large group gets torn in two and mayhem breaks loose amidst the choas.
The action starts fairly soon in the movie, and it keeps your interest. The grafics are acceptable and the acting is sublime. Their are some gross images, and parts of the movie definately make goosebumps rise on your arms. Viewer's comment: "Though the creatures were terrifying, the movie was too long. The whole movie is just kinda weird. Overall, the story was entertaining but it was two or three hours long".

Paranormal Activity

Paranormal Activity, made in 2007, is about a couple that finds themselves victims to many haunting's. The woman claims that she has been suffering from these frightening episodes since she was a child. So, to put an end to all their questions, they place cameras around their house. Over time, they begin to experience chilling circumstances and encounters. Some of the scariest things happen while they are asleep and unaware of their surroundings.
The intensity of these encounters swells over time. The movie starts out very slowly, but by the end you are hysteric with worry and fear. Creepy things like footprints appear in spilt flour, and chandeliers swing without any wind. Watch as this couple is slowly tortured by these ghosts. Will they be able to vanish the ghosts now that they have proof of their existence? Viewer's comment: "It was very creative but the action didn't pick up until the very end. I thought it was suspenseful, but not scary".

Halloween (2007)

Remade from the orginal Halloween in 1978, this film was highly dissapointing. The first movie had suspence and it was "creepy", even though it was a bit slow. This movie gets into the action almost immediately, but that's the only good thing about it. It strays from the orginal movie's plotline, and wanders off in a different direction. Some parts of the movie are similar, but if you want a true horror movie watch the original directed by John Carpenter.
This movie starts out protraying a messed up family that resembles white trash. Michael Meyers then goes on a killing spree (as in the original story). Sadly this movie is a poor recreation. After almost 20 years in an institution, Michael breaks out and begins searching for his little sister (which he spared in his brutal attack years ago). His sister is unaware of his exsistence, and is terrified when he shows up.
This movie has trashy sex scenes that might make the teenage male pleased, but the added nudity is unnecessary. This movie is long, but it does have action sequences that keep the audience interested. Unfortunately, this movie is more about suspence than actually scaring the audience. I was sadly dissapointed, especially with the ending. Sensless killing can be a good quality in a scary movie, but sadly it was not in this case. Viewer's comment: "Can't compare to the orginal. It was a good suspense film. It wasn't scary, unlike the original version". Watch Halloween (1978) staring Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Pleasence.

Quarantine

Quarantine is about a reporter that gets stuck in an infected apartment building. They start to investigate, and soon realise that one of the residences is very sick. When they rush to flee the building, that learn that they have been locked inside. Slowly, the effects of the disease, suspected to be a form of rabies, start to take hold of the residents one by one. We watch in horror as each struggle for their lives.

This movie is somewhat gory and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The infected residents show up at every turn, which is often a fatal encounter. It is also filmed with a hand-held camera, which makes the story realistic. Unlike some other movies that use this same camera style, Quarantine doesn't make you motion sick, but graphic images might. This movie made several girls scream and men jump. Viewer's comment: "Though the first half an hour was slow, the wait definitely pays off!"

IT

Follow 7 kids on their battle against Pennywise the Clown. Originally one of Stephen King's novels, IT has been made into a movie in 1990.
This movie, like some of Stephen King's creations, focuses more on the story or plotline than the "scare factor". Although the movie does have it's moments that can make the skiddish squirm, it was not a terrifying film. 7 kids get together against the evil Pennywise the clown (played by Tim Curry). Each kid is personally terrorized by the clown, which can give you goosebumps. The movie had several scenes that were more "creepy" but the movie was based on the children's flashbacks. This made the movie slower, especially since it's 192 minutes long. Some audiences were befuddled by the "weirdness" that Stephen King is famous for. One viewer states, "The clown was pretty creepy. But this does not make up for the fact that the movie is extremely long and boring". If you want a movie that will make you pee your pants...look elsewhere. If you are interested in a suspenseful, creepy story, rent it soon!
